Love this starter but after two weeks of using on my Gen VI BBC 454 (one piece rear seal) with a 168 tooth flex plate it began to grind the flex plate. While the engine was accessible from the rear it was obvious the starter was not engaging the flex plate enough. The starter doesn’t mount close enough to the flex plate. My research found that the 168 tooth flex plate uses a straight patter bolt setup and not staggered or combination staggered and straight pattern. In the description of the starter it says good for both flex plates. I’ve learnt the hard way the description is wrong and there’s no adjustment to move the starter closer to the flex plate. I think it won’t fit because the Gen VI uses a one piece seal and that needs to be added into the description clearly. Live and learn!!
